Macam-Macam Sunnah dari Segi Sanad

   
        As-sunnah ditinjau dari perawi-perawinya dari Rasulullah SAW dibagi menjadi tiga macam :
1.      Sunnah Mutawatirah ialah sunnah yang diriwayatkan dari rasulullah saw, oleh sekumpulan perawi menurut kebiasaannya, individu-individualnya itu didak mungkin sepakat untuk berbohong, disebabkan jumlah mererka yang banyak, sikap amanah mereka,para perowinya yang merupakan sekumpulan orang yang tidak mungkin mengadakan kesepakatan untuk berdusta, mulai dari penerimaan sunnah itu dari rasul sampai datang kepada kita. Diantara sunnah mutawatiroh ini ialah sunnah amaliyah dalam melaksanakan sholat, mengenai puasa, haji dll.
Sedangkan dalam sunnah qauliyah jarang sekali ditemukan hadist mutawatir ini.
2.    Sunnah Masyhurah ialah sunnah yang diriwayatkan dari rasulullah saw oleh seorang, atau dua orang, atau tiga orang sahabatnya yang tidak mencapai jumlah tawatur (perawi hadist mutawatir), kemudian dari perawi atau para perawi ini sekumpulan orang yang mencapai mutawatur meriwayatkannya ; kemudian sekelompok perawi yang sepadan dengannya meriwayatkannya dari mereka, dan dari kelompok perawi inisekelompok perawi lainnya yang sepadan dengan mereka meriwayatkan sunnah itu sehingga sunnah itu sampai kepada kita dengan suatu sanad, dimana tingkat pertama dalam sanad itu yang mendengar perkataan rasulullah atau yang menyaksikan tingdakan beliau hanya satu orang, atau beberapa orang yang tidak mencapai jumlah kemutawatiran, sedangkan tingkatan-tingkatan sanadnya merupakan jumlah perawi yang mutawatir.
  Sunnah Ahad ialah sunnah yang diriwayatkan dari rasulullah saw oleh perseorangan yang tidak mencapai jumlah mutawatiran. Misalnya hadist itu diriwayantkan dari rasulullah saw. Oleh satu orang saja, atau dua orang saja, atau perawi ini perawi yang sepadannya meriwayatkan sunnah itu. Demikian seterusnya sehingga sampai kepada kita dengan suatu sanad yang seluruh tingkatannya adalah perseorangan, bukan kelompok yang mutawatir. Di anatara kategori sunnah ini adalah kebanyakan hadist yang dihimpun didalam kitab-kitab sunnah, dan disebut dengan khabar wahid.
